Today we judged the quilts.  Madam Judges Ann & Linda arrived bright and early and got to work by 8:45am.  241 quilts later, we had the winners.  But wait a minute…winners?  Anyone who entered should really be proud of their accomplishments.  Both judges had nothing but praise for the quality of the work in this show.  Every class was filled with contenders.  When all of the quilts are good, well, only one can wear the ribbon for “best,” but that doesn’t mean it came easily!!

Don’t believe me?  Come and see!  The doors open at 10am on Friday morning.  We’ll be waiting. 

Three Amigas

Polo shirts have been donned, name badges found, smiles tucked into place, it’s almost Show Time!!

The quilts came in yesterday, and they are simply stunning!  Seeing them in the fabric is such a treat!  Really, you need to mark your calendar and come and see what we have to offer.  I got a note yesterday that said, “Your ladies always put on the BEST show!”  We try!  Come and see!  April 13-15, 10- 5 Fri/Sat; 10-4 on Sunday.  $10/person, $15 for 3-day pass.

A group of 10 committee members got together yesterday for a pipe-washing party.  All of the poles that will be holding your quilts have been washed and are awaiting their treasure.  Speaking of which, four more quilts arrived today.  It’s almost time folks, I hope you’ve marked your calendars!  April 13-15, at the McDermont Field House in Lindsay.  See you there!!

I’ve printed and passed out 6000+ postcards since October 2011. We do not open until 10am on Sunday. We open at 10am, every day. How did I not catch that?!!

The show is coming right up, and I hope you plan to attend. But please, please be advised, that show hours are 10-5 on Fri/Sat and 10-4 on Sunday, April 13-15, 2012.

2012 jury results letters

The letters were in the mail.  They were sent out two weeks ago, and hopefully everyone has received theirs.  Well, I know that one person in particular did not.  I’ve talked to her and sent a new letter.  Did you enter?  Did you get your letter?  It should have arrived by now, as they were stamped at the post office and mailed on March 2.  If your letter has NOT arrived, please call or email and let me know asap.

The show is going to be FANTASTIC.  We’ve accepted over 240 quilts for competition, along with 10 quilts by quilters under 18 and 9 by quilters 80 and older.  Not just fantastic, SUPER-fantastic!

I hope you have marked your calendars, as the show is coming up lickety-split.  April 13-15, 2012.  Fri/Sat 10am-5pm, Sun 10am-4pm.  Admission:  $10/day or $15/3-day pass.  See you there!!

Remember, this year we’ve reduced the entry fee to $10 for your first quilt and $5 for each additional quilt.

We have over $3000 in cash awards in many different categories.  Machine Applique, Hand Applique, Machine Embroidery, Hand Quilting, Embellishment, Traditional, Memorable, Best Use of Color, Outstanding Art…you name it, we’re giving an award.  And of course there are the judging categories, Best of Show and Viewer’s Choice awards.  If you don’t enter, you can’t win.

And it’s not all about the awards.  It’s about inspiring other quilters.  Our show seeks a variety of quilts and quilting techniques to give the viewer the best quilt show in the Central Valley.  If you’ve been thinking about it and are hesitating, don’t.  You may be the one who inspires a non-quilter to finally take up a needle and thread.

I do hope that you are working on your 2012 entry/entries for our show. We expect our sponsored categories to continue in the coming year, and I’m sure that whatever style of quilting you produce, we’ve got a special award for it. We have some changes in store for you, as soon as they’re up and running, I’ll let you know.

We’ve made some changes to the entry forms, which will be available in late October.  When you get yours (or download it from the web), be sure to read the accompanying guidelines carefully.  One change will be that quilts measuring 40″ or less in width will be allowed to have a 2″ sleeve.  All other quilts still require a 4″ sleeve.

We’ll be adding two new categories.  The first is for quilters under the age of 18.  Tell your local 4-H clubs and grandkids, this one is for them!  There will be no entry fee, but there will be a Viewer’s Choice ribbon accompanied by a check for $100.

The second category will be for quilters 80 and older.  There will be no entry fee, unless the quilter would also like his/her quilt judged in a general category.  The quilts in this category will be hung together, and, as with the under 18’s, be eligible for a Viewer’s Choice ribbon, accompanied by a check for $100.

Finally, the entry fees will be changing.  Instead of $10 for each entry, we’ll be charging $10 for the first entry and $5 for subsequent entries.  We know you’re all feeling the pinch, and hope that this will encourage you to continue supporting our show.
